Egyptian women don't need Clinton, says Egyptian minister
Minister responds to Clinton’s criticism of the abuse of women protesters saying Egyptian women can defend themselves
Fayza Aboul Naga, minister of planning and international cooperation, has slammed comments by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in which she described the treatment of Egyptian women by the military as “shocking.”
Aboul Naga stressed that Egyptian women are capable of defending themselves and do not need Clinton’s support. She added that Egyptian women have a rich history and have proven repeatedly that they are capable of fighting their own battles.
She also added that Egyptian women do not need foreign voices to demand their rights for them.
Earlier this week, Clinton lambasted the abuse of women during the recent clashes which included the part stripping and brutal beating of a veiled protester, an incident which garnered widespread international attention.
"This systematic degradation of Egyptian women dishonours the revolution, disgraces the state and its uniform and is not worthy of a great people," Clinton said in a speech at Georgetown University.
"Recent events in Egypt have been particularly shocking. Women are being beaten and humiliated in the same streets where they risked their lives for the revolution only a few short months ago,” she said.
On Tuesday, a women’s march protesting the brutal treatment of female protesters, attracted 10,000 women.
A number of demonstrators in the Abbasid (cairo) who support the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces that the American intervention in the internal affairs of Egypt, not only serve their own interests, stressing that the U.S. government exercised severe violence and repression against Americans demonstrators , if they threatened the security of the State, in addition to the practice of racism against the Arabs and Muslims.
The newspaper "Al-Ahram" ; publiched the question of a girl regarding the comments of Hillary : How do you accuse us of being against human rights if they have the worst forms of violence against humanity in Iraq and Afghanistan and support the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people?!
A number of protesters agreed that America is trying to interfere in the affairs of Egypt, somenthing that will be not allowed eather for the military or the Egyptian government.
ln december 23 Protesters in Cairo were holding a number of signs condemning the intervention of Hillary Clinton and U.S. Secretary of State, in the Egyptian internal affairs, and unfurled a banner that says:
The demonstrators were referring to Monica Lewinsky who was an American intern working in the White House in the mid-nineties and they have drawn media
into politics when she got involved in sexual scandal with former U.S. President Bill Clinton , the so-called "Monica Gate".
